Who Ever Said Dressage Was Easy...

Dressage. Oh, when done well is a beautiful dance between horse and rider. The horse and rider are one. The horse seems to intuitively know what the rider wants. The rider just smiles, enjoys and looks between the horses ears and occasionally lets her inside hand quickly slide over the horse's withers.

Yeah, right. That is not quite how it goes. Dressage is hard work. Consistent training. Daily exercises and pure commitment. Dressage is a systematic training of the horse & rider.

The 6 Basic Levels in the Training Pyramid of Dressage

Part 1 -Training Pyramid: A horse is an athlete. Just like humans, when we start a sport or an exercise regime, we start slow. We jog 1 mile at first and work it up till we can run the marathon. We stretch, a little at first, and become more limber when we keep it up. That is the same for the horse.

Part 2 - Rhythm: Perfect practice makes perfect. That statement is very true for Dressage. If you have ever had to re-train a horse, you know it. The same counts for re-training a student, or even yourself. Bad habits are habits too, and changing habits has never been easy. Still, it is do-able.
