Horseback Riding

About Me / Us...

Hi, my name is Monique. My daughter, Kalina and son Robbie and I just love horses. We do not consider ourselves experts, we are just learning and investigating and sharing our finds with you - other horse enthusiasts! We write just because we like it. And since we are a home-schooling family, all the writing my daughter does, goes to her credit. My daughter writes under the name Angelina Whimsey (see artilce on Breeds) and together with her friend they are setting up their own website with Short Stories and Long Stories covering all kinds of subjects. As soon as her site is up, I will include the link here.

We have 1 Quarter horse, 1 7yr old Arab gelding that is not quite grown up yet and a 23 yr old Arab broodmare that is finally retired after oh...16 or 17 foals! Some of her offspring has gone on to great results in Arab shows! Unfortunately, I had her last 2 foals. One of which had a red-bag delivery and was stillborn, and the last one missed bones in his hind feet, and had to be put to sleep. Needless to say, we don't breed her anymore.

My daughter is an avid Dressage Rider and would love to eventually ride Grand Prix! She also was in Pony Club for a few years and made it to C-1 and was ready for her C-2 rating. That means, she was jumping 3'3" in show jumping and x-country. But, Blue is for sale and Eddie (Arab) doesn't jump much yet.

Kalina is ready and hoping to start showing 1st level Dressage this spring on Eddie and on Ivon, a Dutch Warmblood that belongs to our friends Don and Phyllis. Ivon has been trained up to level 4. So, I am sure Kalina will learn a lot and have lots of fun on her!

My son started Kenpo Karate a few months ago, and spends 5 to 7 hours a week training at the Dojo. He was accepted on the Demo (that is demonstration - not demolition) team. He just received his weapon of choice: the Sai. What fun - but, just like riding, it requires training and lots of it!

As a home-school project, I was attempting to teach them both online marketing. After all, if you know how to do that, you can make money wherever you are and take care of yourself, your school, your hobbies and eventually your family. Boy, did I get lost! I truly did not see the forest thru the trees anymore. Have you ever considered how many internet guru's there are? My inbox filled up daily with at least 100 emails!

I was always on the computer sorting thru email, trying to keep up with internet courses and desperately trying to make some money to help trying to keep our family afloat! Mike, my husband lost his job September 2008 and hasn't been able to find a new one since!  I hardly had time for my children and their school anymore, let alone the horses! We were running in panic mode! It was time to stop-drop & roll!

I really wanted to get this website going. It has been online now for about a year and it just wasn't doing much. I mean, not even a thousand hits in a year is not good! What does it need? How do others do it without spending thousands of dollars on SEO, AdWords etc? Where was my focus and where do I want and need my focus to be?

In Psalm 127, verse 1 it sais: Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who built it. I needed to go back to basics. What does God have in mind for my life? What are my talents, my passions. We need to "lay up our treasures in Heaven, not on earth" Matt 6:19 and we all know the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. God wants us to use our talents to glorify Him. We are to sow and then reap...

I really did not want to fall in the all-to-well-known guru trap a second time. Been there, done that! This time I wanted it to be legitimate...not that the other ventures weren't...they were just not as mainstream. Besides, I really believe that it is not that easy to teach someone else to be successful at what you do.

I have done MLM for years. And though I was somewhat successful, I never made the big bucks. Yeas, I did what my upline taught me. I went through the motions, but their personality was not mine! Their friends were not like mine. Their target market was not mine. Anyway, you get the idea.

I read a great article online yesterday from a man named Steve Pavlina who said "The problem was that I couldn't readily teach people to do what I do, at least not the way I do it. I'm too old school. I've been using the Internet since 1989, and I built my first income-generating website in 1995. Most of the money I've earned in my life has come from my online businesses. But my approach has been virtually unteachable. Believe me -- I've tried. After delivering a few workshops on blogging, it became obvious to me that I couldn't teach this. I was overwhelming people with more info than they could handle. People got excited by the ideas, but they couldn't implement them. In truth there's just way too much hidden complexity in my approach."

And then went on to say: "The reason I'm writing this article is that I finally found a practical solution for people who want to build a successful online business without getting lost in a sea of technical details, using essentially the same business model I used to build my business."

My goal is to make this website into your

  • favorite stop for information, stories, and products about and for horses and horse lovers.

  • Build a community where like-minded people can meet in a forum, where you can write articles or anecdotes and be published right here.

  • Where we can highlight horse professionals, special riders, accomplishments...

  • Where we can start a ministry for those that could be helped by horses and riding. Maybe collect donations for the handicapped to give them the opportunity to ride, the equipment needed etc.

  • Information and help on the different disciplines, shows, horse vacations, trips and interesting facts

  • Horses around the world

When I recently found out about SBI! I knew that in the very near future this very site will be re-built with their system. I can start focusing on the important things. I don't have to put that much time into learning SEO, how to get my website on the first page. I don't have to spend a lot of money on Adwords and PPC. It is what I have been looking for for a long, long time. A step-by-step system, to keep me on track and to help me build a site that others want to find and can find.

SBI! Provides tools to BrainstormIt! and find the perfect niche you are passionate about. They have a simple, yet profound system to help me take each step in order, without getting too distracted and spread out too thin. They suggest topics to write about. They do all the 'behind the scenes' jobs and I can do the fun stuff; teach me kids, go ride, go to horse shows, interview people, go on horse vacations and write them off as a business expense! (I love this!)

And now you can even try it for FREE!

I am ready to take one step at a time. I un-subscribed from over 20 email lists so I can focus and stay focused. I am ready to take this site to a next level and serve you with lots of high quality content and information. Check back often, and together let's go on to a bright future.

We hope to meet you on our Forum and on our blog. Our newsletter is in the making and will give you updates every now and then on interesting things we find and things we think may be of interest to you.

If you have an interesting article you wrote and would like to share with us, please email me and we may post it on this site or blog.

If you have any suggestions regarding this site, feel free to contact us. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know, we may do some research for you!

Happy Riding!

Monique, Kalina & Robbie
